Dry Scalp vs. Dandruff

Dry Scalp vs. Dandruff

Did you know that a dry scalp does not always mean you have dandruff?  Most causes of dry scalp come from over using conditioners, build-up of compounds from styling products or relaxers, not shampooing the hair often enough or not rinsing thoroughly.  As I always recommend you to do, always consult with a Master Cosmetologist so they can determine a treatment plan for you. Typically, a dry scalp is very similar to dry skin.  It can be itchy just like your face or body.  The best way to prevent a dry scalp is to use a shampoo and conditioner that hydrates your scalp and you hair.  Although shampoo and conditioner is very important, a dry scalp can also be cause by health habits. Dandruff is normally oily, white and thick and is usually caused from poor diet, or internal health issues.  Most of the time you can control dandruff by making a lifestyle change.  For instance, change your diet to include more fruits and vegetables and decrease your sugar intake. If the dandruff is stuck to your scalp and persist after following the suggestions above, you may want to consult further with a Dermatologist. But don’t worry, there is always a solution!
